Welcome to Itchybaby
Tackling childhood eczema together
If you have an itchy baby you’ll know that eczema in babies, toddlers and children can be incredibly distressing for both you and your baby.
My experiences with eczema and my own itchy baby inspired me to set up this website. My aim is to provide information, support and a place to chat for parents of babies suffering baby eczema.
It’s a website that I hope will evolve as more and more parents and carers of children with eczema share their experiences. It contains information and suggestions that people have found helpful in reducing the symptoms of eczema in little people, and I hope you find nuggets of wisdom that will help you help your little one.
My little boy was three and a half months old when an itchy red rash started appearing on his tummy. I didn’t think much of it at first, the skin there was very dry, and I assumed it was just baby eczema.
Our first trip to the doctors left me confused, the second and subsequent trips left me angry and upset. The health visitors’ well meaning advice made matters worse and the daily baths in prescription oils were setting his poor skin on fire.
My boy was exhausted from his inability to sleep, he was itchy, irritable and generally unhappy – my smiley, content little boy had disappeared. Bath times became a battle to stop him ripping his skin, sleep was something that happened in 45 min spells and I struggled to find time to care for my 2 year old daughter.
Doctors told me ‘Eczema was just one of those things’ ‘They tend to grow out of it’.
That just wasn’t good enough. It had to be something and I had to find out what. Sleep deprived and desperate I took matters into my own hands. Any moment I could grab was spent trawling the internet for information with an unhappy baby on my lap.
This website has been created to share with others the information I discovered. I hope you find it useful.
We hope you find the information on this website useful. If your baby is suffering from eczema then we’re sure you will want to jump straight to treatments, but at Itchy Baby we would encourage you to spend some time reading some of the other informative sections of this site.
You’ll discover news, and research into eczema, information on eczema triggers, a shop with products we have found particularly helpful in managing eczema, useful links to charities and other information resources and perhaps most importantly of all, a forum where parents share their experiences, their advice, their frustration and the joy that children bring.
So if you have an itchy baby, itchy toddler or an itchy child then join us.
Please note: Itchy Baby does not replace advice given to you by your doctor or dermatologist. It is a parent to parent website and our goal is to empower people dealing with this distressing condition through shared knowledge and experiences. If you have an itchy baby, then welcome.
